Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council was report yesterday to have lauded the idea of South East Governors’ Forum (SEGF) led by Gov Dave Umahi to float the South East Regional Security outfit, describing the initiative as timely.
However, OYC’s claim that Amotekun was copied from the original ideas of South East security outfit, designed by South East Governors has attracted anger and criticism from Yoruba youth across the nation.
Akindotun Akinbowale, a Yoruba business man living in South Africa messaged Agogoayonews.com in the early hours of today complaining bitter that OYC is silly and overambitious to have made such claims.
Akinbowale who leads a strong community of Yorubas in a vibrant social media space affirmed that Yorubas have always had their security outfits from the days of old Oyo Kingdom to date.
He argued further that the defunt Odua People’s Congress (OPC) security outfit was one of such initiatives.
“Why can’t they be humble enough to accept they copied Amotekun than be lying ridiculously. Even after the Biafra war, did they create a security outfit”, he asked angrily.
“OYC urges the South East governors to involve all stakeholders in the regional security outfit, as we believe that Amotekun was copied from the original ideas of South East security outfit which was designed by South East governors.
A statement in Abakaliki by the national president of OYC, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, read in part, “The security outfit will help in curbing inter- and intra-state crimes committed by miscreants, kidnappers, bandits and herdsmen and the incessant crimes committed during farming seasons, especially rape of mostly Igbo mothers.
