By now, the media space is agog with Valentine speeches, tips, advice, commentaries…and many have been equipped to make today (Feb 14 Valentine’s Day) a special and memorable day.
Gifts will be exchanged. Candle light and candle-less dinners will abound. Some will go to the cinema, some will receive perfumes, shoes, flowers, chocs, phones, cars, houses, love and TRUTHFULLY some will receive nothing.
Additionally, some may receive pregnancy (from ‘romantic nights’) and some heartbreaks, because he/she may run off to cool off with someone else.
But whatever you receive, embrace this bitter truth: IF HE MAKES YOU SPECIAL ON VALENTINE’S DAY, you are not really special.
This may seem hard for those who don’t understand love or how a good relationship should run.
But for those who are in a healthy, warm and fertile relationship (man and woman specifically), they’ll understand my gist.
Valentine mustn’t make you special. You mustn’t come across as an object, technically abandoned and overlooked often and suddenly remembered because Valentine’s here and to be forgotten after Valentine is gone.
Today, we must repent. Valentine must not make him/her special. It must just be the icing on the cake because fun (not love) is in the air. Love must always be in us and for our loved ones. Love is not seasonal. It transcends seasons and times…
Even if he/she doesn’t make you feel special, don’t lose your mind about that. You are special as you think you are, not as anyone thinks.
And if he’s not the romantic and lovey-dovey type, don’t crucify him for it. Rather teach him and let him swim and sink in the depth of your ocean of love.
Lastly, don’t be deceived by social media hypes or some false gifts that some will flaunt that they have received or those who will send themselves gift…
And if you are busy today, don’t worry, set aside another date and plenty other dates to exchange love, affection, warmth, grace, gifts…life’s short and has become hard and hectic lately…never miss any moment to give and receive love.
And if you don’t have plenty money, don’t be grumpy, love is eternal and many great times lies ahead to show and celebrate love with your loved ones.
And if you are not into Valentine, don’t feel odd or that you are not trending; Valentine is man made…is one of man’s attempt to grasp the concept of love.
Saint Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually on February 14, originating as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus.
Valentine’s Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the world.
There are numerous matyrdom stories associated with various Valentines connected to February 14.
One of them is a written account of Saint Valentine of Rome’s imprisonment for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire.
According to legend, Saint Valentine restored sight to the blind daughter of his judge, and he wrote her a letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell before his execution.
The Feast of Saint Valentine was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD 496 to be celebrated on February 14 in honour of the Christian martyr, Saint Valentine of Rome, who died on that date in AD 269.
The day first became associated with romantic love within the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
However, Love is beyond all these. Love is Divine. God is Love. When you truly have God, you have love.
Love God. Love Yourself. Love your neighbour. Love life…remain blessed and highly favoured
