The State of the Nation Address Debate was taken over, much like the event itself, by the Economic Freedom Fighters.
While the other politicians did, eventually, get a chance to weigh in on Ramaphosa’s address proceedings hit a snag during Julius Malema’s speech.
ANC MP Boy Mamabolo had risen during the EFF leader’s address and demanded that Malema addresses allegations that he abuses his wife.
Malema had answered the question in his own time, creating an uproar amongst those who insisted on a prompt response.
In the aftermath that followed, Malema alleged that Ramaphosa had been abusive towards his late wife ( something the EFF leader claims ex-president Jacob Zuma is aware of).

The EFF itself has applauded its leader for a ‘true triumph of accountability’ after he responded under oath and vowed he’d never laid a hand on his wife.
The party welcomed the legal action being taken against the ANC MP who levied the accusations against its leader.
Citizens had mixed reactions to the whole ordeal, with some feeling the ANC’s attempt to deflect criticism against the ruling party had landed it in the hot seat.
FF+ leader Pieter Groenewald had started his address lashing the ANC for provoking backlash from Malema when greater issues were at hand.
Take a look at just a few responses to the situation:

Boy Mamabolo is a disgrace to the ANC, he set up President Cyril Ramaphosa using Mantwa’s name to attack Malema. The ANC should revisit the Parliamentary List and recall such people who are not strategist & destroying the ANC Public Confidence, #SONAdebate pic.twitter.com/DJi2zve7PX
