Diego Maradona’s son has claimed that whenever someone tries to compare former Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo to FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, he walks away from the conversation.
Messi has, for a long time, been compared to legendary Argentine Maradona, who famously lifted the 1986 FIFA World Cup after a brilliant tournament.
The latter’s son, Diego Maradona Jr, has now insisted that while the Blaugrana captain does go close to his father, he is streets ahead of Juventus forward Ronaldo.
“Messi comes close to him (Maradona) obviously, I always said that Messi is much better than Ronaldo,” he told Cadena SER.
“He’s close to him, but you can’t compare a human being with an alien. I get up from the table and leave because I will not sit there comparing Messi with Ronaldo.
“I tip my hat to Ronaldo because he’s a great forward, but he has no comparison with Messi. No one today compares to Messi.
“Messi is a phenom, yes. Messi is a player that if he chooses to score five goals in a game, he does so. There is no drama, he plays with a calmness and quality that is incredible.
“I adore Messi. Those who criticise Messi have no clue when it comes to football.”
Messi recently became the first player in recorded history to contribute towards more than 1 000 goals, having racked up 1 002 contributions in 854 matches for club and country.
