Nigeria has confirmed its first coronavirus case this week – Mmusi Maimane has since taken to social media to respond to the news.
The former DA leader said it was the continent’s “worst nightmare” and he urged South Africans to pray.
Nigeria’s Health Ministry confirmed the country’s first coronavirus case. An Italian citizen who traveled to Lagos has tested positive for the virus, CNN reported.
The former DA leader wrote: “Our worst nightmare as a continent. The presence of #coronavirus in sub-Saharan Africa. We must be extra vigilant. We must pray for the continent. Increase our personal hygiene standards. It’s no longer just a problem out there, we have to face it too.
Maimane added in another post that he values prayer as a man of faith and believes some things should be handled “through that path.”
He added: “I believe in both prayer and preparation. Faith without works is dead.”
Briefly.co.za earlier reported two South Africans working on a cruise ship in Japan have tested positive for the coronavirus.
