“The ANC Spy Bible” is a new book written by Moe Shaik, South Africa’s former state security boss. In the memoir-like book, Moe Shaik captures the horror of the apartheid system, and in particular the state security services.
Reflecting on his experience from The Bible Project, a project led by him in the 80’s, he tells his side of the story, describing his relationship with The Nightingale, a Special Branch officer turned rogue who provided information to the underground.
Shaik takes the reader on a thrilling ride navigating the most turbulent and uncertain parts of South Africa’s late apartheid and transition past.
“MOE Shaiks’s real life struggle odysseys reads like a thriller. Moe enters the fascinating and dangerous world of espionage, where fear and courage live side by side and death is never for off,” says one of the book reviewers,” Siphiwe Nyanda.
The horrors that Moe Shaik and his brother Yunus suffered at the hands of their torturers while in detention defy all understanding, and brings shame to all who turned a blind eye to what was happening during the apartheid years.
That Moe and Yunus Shaik survived the years of being hunted, hounded and persecuted by the authorities is in itself a miracle.
Published 5th March 2020, the book offers an interesting historical exposition on South Africa’s recent past.
