Media reports recently confirmed that some Nigerians were not allowed to enter South Africa – they were deported at the OR Thambo International Airport for not being able to provide valid travel documents.
Majority of these Nigerians have businesses and jobs in South Africa but travelled home without proper immigrations documents.
Reliable source confirmed that it is now very hard for immigration documents to be secured or renewed in South Africa.
There are many Nigerians who live in South Africa without travel documents but have businesses that are doing well in the country.
One of the men that were recently deported has three shops that are actively operational in South Africa.
Keneth, a popular Nigerian business man says: “It is not about doing or not doing well. They have made the issue of immgiration documents hard in South Africa. Your permit can stay inside the Home Affairs for three years without coming out”.
“Many people want to have the right document. Some don’t even mind bribing their ways to get it but it is just hard. I suspect they are doing this intentionally”.
Another popular narration is that there is too much corruption in the South African Home Affairs department.
