Nigerian celebrities are adding their voices to the global conversation around Coronavirus. Singer Simi is another celebrity that is speaking up about the virus and people attitudes towards it.
Reacting to the measures being put in place by the Nigerian government to control the impacts of the virus, Simi said Nigerians should avoid spreading fear.
She advised that Nigerians need stop change their attitude because the only thing they respect more than religion is fear.
According to her, Nigeria government needs to take action in the direction of a total lockdown because the country has survived similar cases in the past.
The singer challenged religious leaders to be responsible and compassionate not to put the lives of their followers in jeopardy in the name of religion saying that. Simi believes this is not the right to go to church given the bad experiences of coronavirus abroad.
“Don’t spread fear.” They said. At this point, we might need to change that strategy because the only thing Nigerians respect more than religion is fear. Everything needs to shut be down. Not later. Now!
If they insist on going to church, show them the stories of churches abroad where the virus spread. These religious heads need to start being more responsible. People respect you – ACT LIKE YOU DESERVE THE RESPECT. Be compassionate and tell your followers to stay home.
The country has been shut down for less trivial things before etc…somehow we got by. Now let’s do it for something way more important. For our lives. We’ve been governing ourselves on a lot of things that matter for a while now, we have no choice but to continue. Please”
