The explosion that rocked Akure in Ondo State was caused by the negligence of those who transported explosives to a storage facility in a neighbouring state. Rotimi Akeredolu, the state governor revealed this via his Twitter page.
Though the governor did not indicate that it was negligence in his tweet but informed sources claim negligence was apparent.
It was not caused by the flight of asteroid by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as it was popularly believed. The asteroid (large and hazardous) is scheduled to fly toward the end of April.
However, residents of Akure were alert in the early hours of Saturday after a loud explosive noise shook a whole town in Akure.
The explosion left over 50 people injured and destroyed a large number of residential buildings including churches and a school located in Eleyowo community in Akure.
It is believed that investigation is underway but no potential suspect or villain in view.
