It is shocking that at this crucial and critical time five Rwandan soldiers have been arrested after residents of a slum in the capital, Kigali, alleged that they raped women as they enforced a nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
According to BBC, residents of Nyarutarama have been notifying the military prosecution office that the soldiers also beat up men and stole from them.
One of the soldiers allegedly raped a woman on March 26 after she resisted the way he forced his way into her home – beating her husband.
Residents have been complaining about the brutality and excesses of the security officers since lockdown was announced in Rwanda.
Two men were shot dead after they were caught walking outside a week ago though police claimed the men had tried to attack the officers.
Rwanda currently has 89 cases of coronavirus with no fatality.
