Whilst many nations ease lockdown, Kenyan has extended a nationwide overnight curfew by another 30 days. President Uhuru Kenyatta warns that ending it risked tens of thousands of additional coronavirus deaths but several areas that had been under lockdown will reopen.
However, the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) disclosed that 15 people had died at the hands of officers enforcing the curfew.
Many Kenyans are not happy that the government is not addressing the matter of police brutality objectively and seriously enough.
Many Kenyans complain of shootings, robbery and sexual assault by police officers.
The world’s 48th largest country by total area reduced its nightly curfew by three hours. It will now run from 21:00 to 04:00.
Al Jazeera confirmed two days ago that police have allegedly killed of 15 people since the government imposed in March a dusk-to-dawn curfew.
The IPOA said it had received 87 complaints against police since the curfew and heightened security measures were rolled out on March 27.
