The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified Governor Godwin Obaseki from contesting in the party’s primaries billed to hold on the 22nd of this month.
Osaro Obazee, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Dr Pius Odubu were cleared by the the Professor Ayuba Jonathan-led panel to vie in the primaries election.
A seven-member screening committee constituted by the APC also disqualified Matthew Aigbuhuenze Iduoriyekemwen and Chris Ogiemwonyi from participating in the primaries aimed at selecting the party-man for the governorship poll.
Obaseki and Iduoriyekemwen’s sins were dragging the APC and the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to court in defiance to the provision of the APC constitution.
The National Youth Service Certificate (NYSC) presented by Obaseki had holes according to the panel. Also, the testimonial of the Institute of Continuing Education Benin city submitted by Governor Obaseki is questionable.
Ogiemwonyi’s disqualification was based on allege inconsistency in the names on the documents presented to the screening committee. Ogiemwonyi indicated he would surely appeal the decision of the screening committee.
The party chairman who received the report expressed gratitude to members of the committee adding that it behoves on aspirants dissatisfied with the findings of the committee to take their case to the appeal committee instituted by the party.
He stressed that the decision to screen the aspirants was harmonious with the resolve of the party to deepen the tenets of democracy in the country.
