Researchers in England said Dexamethasone has been found to reduce deaths by 35% in patients who needed treatment with breathing machines and by 20% in those only needing supplemental oxygen.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the drug was the “biggest breakthrough yet” in treating the coronavirus.

Also, a leading top United States infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci said it is a significant improvement in the available therapeutic options available.
The United Kingdom’s Department of Health said the drug had been approved to treat all hospitalized Covid-19 patients requiring oxygen, effective immediately. The U.K has put aside enough of the drugs to treat 200,000 patients.

Peter Horby of Oxford University hinted that it is on almost every pharmacy shelf in every hospital and it’s available throughout the world and it is very cheap.
Horby was one of the leaders of the trial that randomly assigned 2,104 patients to get the drug and compared them with 4,321 patients getting only usual care.
There are currently over 8.2 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus globally and about 450,000 deaths as at June 17.
The U.K has about 300,000 cases of Covid-19 with about 52,000 deaths.
