After much consultations and pleading from Governo Godwin Obaseki, the Peoples Democratic Party (PD) has granted his wish that if he (Obaseki) emerges winner at the PDP primary slated for Tuesday, June 23, in Benin, Edo State, he runs with his deputy, Phillip Shaibu.
This was one of the highlights of Obaseki’s meeting with top PDP members in Abuja on Wednesday.
The governor of Edo State who was recently hacked out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party described his deputy as a loyal friend and that one of the pillars of support to him, even as he battles godfatherism in the state.
PDP chieftains bolstered the Obaseki/Shaibu joint ticket as one of the goodies for the coming governorship primary in the state.
An anonymous said Obaseki’s meeting with PDP was wider in perspective – waivers, running mate, campaign manager, funding et al were part of what were discussed but the issue of Shaibu formed the crux.
PDP decided not to impose a running mate on him to create room for peace and healthy relations between the Governor an his team.
Obasaeki laughed sarcastically when he was asked if he would return to the APC if he wins the governor race for the second time.
