Nigerian music star, Innocent Ujah Idibia, also known as 2Face, has been appointed a regional Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR.
The announcement was made official today, in a statement released via the UNHCR website.
The statement reads:
“At a time when one percent of humanity has been forced to flee, we welcome 2Baba’s help in raising awareness and support for refugees and our cause,” said Dominique Hyde, UNHCR’s Director of External Relations. “We welcome 2Baba to the UNHCR family as a Goodwill Ambassador and commend him for being part of the movement challenging the narrative of the African refugee.”
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, abbreviated as UNHCR, is a United Nations agency with the mandate to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people, and assist in their voluntary repatriation, local integration or resettlement to a third country.
2Baba has been a committed High-Level Supporter of the agency for the past three years. He holds the record as the very first Nigerian to be appointed as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.

Friends, please watch this. Refugees have already experienced losing their homes and livelihoods and, for many, loved ones too. Now they are facing the global pandemic. While some countries come out of this crisis, we cannot forget about @refugees around the world who are still so vulnerable. Many who have found safety in camps live in crowded conditions. Others are struggling to support their families. I’m thinking of them this #WorldRefugeeDay – and everyone can help make a difference. Every action counts.
