The 2020 Best Countries Rankings rated five African nations as the continent’s most powerful countries based on the countries respect for human rights, their Gross Domestic Products (GDPs), ease of doing business, among other Factors.
It is mixed feelings in Nigeria that the most populous African nation is not in the top Five.
Many Nigerians are not surprised yet disappointed that their nation – the ‘so called Giant of Africa’ did not make Top 5.
However, many Nigerians believed that based on the factors considered, Nigerian ought not to be in the Top 5.
Egypt grabbed the first in Africa and 36 on the world category. South Africa comes second and rated 39th among world countries. Kenya, Ghana and Morocco are in the 3rd, 4th and 5th position respectively.
As part of the factors used in the ranking, Mauritius and Tunisia ranked first and second with a 100% electricity supply while Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, and Seychelles ranked 99.8%, 99.1%, and 99% respectively in electricity supply.
No country on the list has below 80% electricity access as South Africa and Ghana, nations on ninth and 10th positions, have 84.3% and 84.2% power access rates.
The Moroccan government reportedly use green technology to proffer a solution to one of its citizens’ challenges by building a solar panel tree in Marrakesh so that people can easily charge their phones without having to worry about electricity.
Moroccans can plug and charge their devices away from home, without the fear of running out of power.
