Eight prisoners still at large after South Africa jail break spark public interest.
South Africa’s prisons body says it has arrested all but eight of the 69 inmates who escaped from a facility in the Western Cape on yesterday.
South African Correctional Service said the prisoners had “overpowered officials during exercise” then “took the keys and locked three officials in a cell.
Thereafter they opened other cells before escaping through the main entrance and over the roof.
Only 20 prison officers were on duty at the facility which had 451 inmates.
Nine prison officers reportedly “sustained minor injuries and bruises” during the incident.

The Police confirmed they re-arrested “several escapees” who broke out of a prison in the Western Cape but others remain at large.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the search party included detectives, on foot and in vehicles who covered much ground in the search that has yielded much result.
