Anthony Mackie, the star who plays “Falcon” on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, believes that Marvel Studios have an “unawareness problem” instead of a “racism problem”.
He stated that many Hollywood studios are not racist but they are not doing enough to promote diversity.
The 41-year-old actor stated that he feels that he has a responsibility to speak up about diversity issues.
He stated that Marvel Studios cannot have a black person (himself) as one of their main superheroes and expect him not to speak about it, and he feels that it is his job to make the Marvel universe as good as it can be.
He went on to say that the blessing about this is that the next time he goes to the meetings he can state that he does not want to be the only black person in the meetings that are to come.
When he did “Altered Carbon” he stated that it was very important to him that at least one of the directors was female and at least one of the directors was black.
Anthony Mackie admitted that at the finale of Avengers: Endgame, when an elderly Captain America passed his shield on to “Falcon” (himself), it was humbling for him because of his background and the diversity factor.
