Colourism is rife in Africa among those who feel less handsome, beautiful and adorable because their skin is ‘black’.

Some of them bleach their skin because they claim it makes them more acceptable and respectable in the society.

They don’t believe in the saying: “Black is beautiful”.

1: BOBRISKY:
Bobrisky is a controversial crossdresser who started out as dark but later turned out to be light skin by using bleaching creams.

2: SEAN TIZZLE
Sean Tizzle has totally transformed into new looks after dumping his old black skin colour. But reports say changing his colour has not really made him better than ‘dark artists’ like ‘Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and others.

3: TAYO SOBOLA
The difference in the two photos can be seen clearly as she has lightened her skin.

4:TOKE MAKINWA
Toke Makinwa is a Nigerian radio personality, television host, vlogger, lifestyle entrepreneur and author. She is known for hosting The Morning Drive on Rhythm 93.7 FM and for her YouTube vlog series Toke Moments. She released her book On Becoming in November 2016. She has been heavily criticised for bleaching her skin.

5: CHIKA IKE
Chika Ike has achieved some remarkable transformation in her skin colour since she started making money in Nollywood.
Chika ‘Nancy’ Ike is a Nigerian actress, television personality, producer, business woman, philanthropist and former model.
She began her film career in 2005 when she played a minor character in the movie Sweet Love.

She got her first major role that same year in a movie titled ‘Bless the Child’ and has since played major roles in over a hundred movies.

SIDE EFFECTS OF BLEACHING YOUR SKIN
Mild burning, stinging, redness, and dryness may occur when you bleach yous skin.

Dermatologists say people bleach their skin because they associate light skin with beauty while others do it to try to hide existing conditions like marks on their bodies.

It is reported that many people don’t realise the products they are using is illegal and contain ingredients that can cause serious skin and health complications.

It is observed that some of these skin lightening products contain ingredients that may have carcinogenic properties that can cause health complications and increase risks of cancer.
