One thing that South African Twitter users have is a long memory and an unforgiving spirit.
This is was added fuel to the fire of Boity Thulo, South African rapper, calling her fans roaches.
On Friday the 4th of September 2020, the rapper announced that she would be releasing her first-ever signature eau de parfum in collaboration with a company called Halo Heritage, who describe themselves as the new leading creators of luxurious natural hair care and fine fragrances.
The fragrance is called Boity Pink Sapphire and has been trending along with the word “roaches”.
This was the result of Boity Thulo commenting on tweets by influencer Mihlali Ndamase who expressed her frustration recently after men slut-shamed her for admitting that she is dating.
Boity Thulo commented stating that the fans do not care and said that Mihlali should not let the “roaches” bring her down to their level.
On a different occasion she tweeted asking if the “roaches” have jobs because they are always on twitter gossiping.
On Thursday the 3rd of September 2020, Boity Thulo tweeted what some have called an apology, however, it doesn’t seem that way.
She stated that a few days ago she was being trolled by a number of men on Twitter, the men insulted her in every possible way and therefore she responded with insults and called them unemployed roaches.
She also went on to say that if someone did not insult her on that day then the insults she launched were not meant for them.
Some people believed that this was damaged control before launching her fragrance, but Twitter users have not forget about being called “roaches” as they have commented about it under the rappers posts about her new fragrance.
