A woman from Slovenia, who deliberately cut off her own hand in hopes of claiming £925 000 ($1 191 381, 50) insurance pay-out has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Julija Adlesic, a 22-year-old, plotted with her boyfriend to have her left hand cut off above the wrist at their home in the capital Ljubljana, Slovenia, early last year.
She claimed that it happened while she was cutting branches.
A court in the capital found out that Julija Adlesic had taken out five insurance policies in the year before her injury.
Her boyfriend, Sebastien Abramov, was sentenced to three years in prison while his father received a one-year suspended sentence.
Days before the incident, Sebastien Abramov, had allegedly searched on the internet about how artificial hands work, this was stated by the prosecutors also stating that it was more proof that it was done deliberately.
The court found out that she and her boyfriend had intentionally left the hand that was cut off behind so that they could claim that the disability was permanent.
However, authorities recovered it in time to sew it back on.
During the trial, Julija Adlesic claimed innocence.
Stating that no one wants to be crippled, her youth has been destroyed, and she is the only one who knows what happened.
The trial has attracted a large amount of publicity.
Judge Marjeta Dvornik, who handed the sentence stated that they believe that the sentences are fair and appropriate and will serve their purpose.
