500 million Ghanaian Cedes was reportedly stolen as a bullion van carrying the cash belonging to Fidelity Bank, Hohoe Branch, was involved in an accident.
A motorcycle rider who was knocked off by the bullion van died in the process.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Obeng Dickson confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
The ASP said the bullion van containing the cash was accompanied by the driver, who is the cashier and one police officer.
The Commander said the accident caused damages to boxes containing the cash with the impact forcing them to open.
As the boxes opened, the occupants in an attempt to salvage the money unsuccessfully.
Passersby, without much ado, picked and called their friends to the scene to pick ‘free money’.
It is said that eyewitnesses to the accident called their friends to come them pick about 500 million cedis, they could only salvage 218,232 after the incident.
