Startup Unites Celebrities and Fans in Egypt and the Middle East

A new tech startup named Minly that has launched its marketplace has presented a platform for fans to request personalized videos from their favorite celebrities in Egypt and across the Middle East.

The tech startup is led by entrepreneurs Tarek Hosny and Mohamed El-Shinnawy. They founded the company, earlier this year, in partnership with Tarek El Ganainy’s TVision, the media production arm behind widely distributed shows across the Middle East such as SNL Arabia.

Minly is backed by Foundation Ventures and HOF Capital, a global venture capital firm, amongst other global ventures like Disney.

Minly’s platform provides a catalogue of top celebrities. Fans can browse this catalogue and request video shout-outs from their favorite celebrities.

When a fan makes a video request, the concerned celebrity gets a notification and records a shout-out video specifically personalized for the fan. The fan can then download and share the video with friends.

Some of the celebrities featured in Minly’s catalogue include Fifi Abdou, Hassan El-Raddad, Dorra Zarrouk, Amr Saad, Sawsan Badr, Hany Ramzy, Ahmed Rizk, Ahmed Zaher, Wael Gassar, Waleed Tawfik, Hazem Imam, Trezeguet and Mido.

Although the platform is aimed to cover the whole of the Middle East, the tech startup will only keep its initial focus on Egypt, then spread to other regions gradually.

“We are initially focused on entertainment in Egypt, since it is often a cultural tastemaker for the rest of the Middle East, and we look forward to expand to other markets across the region”, the company CEO, Tarek Hosny, stated.
