Nicki Minaj has also called out the GRAMMY Awards and the Recording Academy while reflecting on how she lost Best New Artist in 2012.

Just after the 2021 Grammy Award nominations were revealed on Tuesday the 24th of November 2020, the well-known rapper voiced out her thoughts on Twitter, she suggested that the organisers of the Grammy’s have been getting things wrong after they failed to reward her with Best New Artist in 2012.

During the 2012 Grammys, Bon Iver beat Nicki Minaj and other nominees including Skrillex, J. Cole, and The Band Perry for the highly desired award.

On her Twitter page she stated that everybody should not forget that the Grammy’s did not give her the best new artist award when she had seven songs simultaneously charting on Billboard and bigger first week than any female rapper in the last decade and went on to inspire a generation.

She wrote this to her 21 million Twitter followers, pointing out that Bon Iver is a white man.

The Grammy’s have been criticized previously for over-looking women and black performers in major categories.

The Recording Academy invited 2 300 new voters, 48% of them were women, and 37% of them belong to the traditionally underrepresented communities, including Black, Latino, and Asian American people, in order for the ceremony to be more inclusive.
