Folashade Shokunbi is the first and only female commercial interstate driver in Lagos State in a male-dominated industry.
She is always the center of attraction any time she drives because you don’t get to see public transport being driven by a woman in some parts of the world.
In a recent interview with BBC News Yoruba, Shokunbi added that many times people will pull-over to feed their curiosity in other to be sure of the gender they see behind the wheels.
Her route is Lagos State to Ijebu-Ode and she says it’s a job that provides her with daily income as there are three children in the University that she needs to carter for.
She said she chose this job with humility and she is the only female driver in the whole of Lagos State. Pioneering as a woman in such a male dominated space is no small feat, according to her.

As a commercial interstate driver for seven years, she has acquired quite a number of achievements like owning landed properties, funded her children’s education up to University, and many more.
There are attestations to her diligence and hard work. She also added that she wishes to hold a high position and wants her impact to be noticed in the transportation sector.
