In a recent interview on TVC’s breakfast show WAKE UP NIGERIA, Actress Bolaji Ogunmola Speaks on her experience with colorism and how She was able to rise against all odds.
The curvy star actress revealed that in 2019 she was supposed to be on a popular television show in Nigeria which was supposed to run for a year but she was turned down because of her dark complexion whereas they were in need of a fair television presenter which she got to know this reason later on
Bolaji added that it was that period that she sees as the lowest moment of her career without knowing where to go from there. She recalled that one of her friends encouraged her to write a story which became a breakthrough for her in the movie industry and she also became a film producer.
Bolaji Ogunmola the CEO of the Ogunmola Company further added that she created the company because she has always wanted to produce and tell the stories she is passionate to talk about not only as an actor but also to work behind the camera and become a phenomenon that people want to see.
The issue of colorism and sexism in Nollywood today, is no news and it is also a major set back in the industry, the movie star expressed her disappointment over this matter especially as a Nigerian a black beautiful woman, one’s skin color should not be the determinant of what or who one can be.
She also said, “a lot of dark skin girls don’t go as far as light skin girls”.
Okon Goes to School is the first film Bolajji Ogunmola appeared in professionally and she was a participant at the 2013 Next Movie Star reality show.
