Late Alhaji Ayinla Omowura, was a legend of Apala music in Nigeria. One of his sons, Haruna Ayinla Omowura revealed to BBC News Yoruba how all his bosom friends abandoned his family three months after his death.
He said the only person that helped them was the former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. He mentioned that Late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister and General Kollington Ayinla used to be friends with his father but none of them helped after his death.
Taye Ayinla Omowura another son of the Apala music maestro also shared his part of his story on how his father died. He said the sad event took place in 1980 when some group of boys alerted them that someone had hit their father with a bottle on his head and by the time they got there, he was dead.
Late Ayinla Omowura was popularly called “EGUNMOGAJI” he was born in Abeokuta Ogun state Nigeria in the late 1930s. The exact date is unknown, as no record of his birth was kept.
Ayinla started his journey with a brand of music called “Olalomi” in the early ’50s. he became successful and was more like a ‘god’ to the masses, particularly among the public transport drivers, and the traders.
